Creating a Knowledge Network for Non Resident Indians

The Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC) is a body set up to serve as a single point of contact for Overseas Indians seeking information, economic engagement or knowledge on India, by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs’ (MOAI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). It is governed by a Council of prominent overseas Indians, senior policy makers from the Government and Industry leaders.

Ever since its conception in 2007, OIFC had been looking for meaningful ways of deepening its engaging with overseas Indian, whether NRIs (Non-resident Indians) or PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin). Although it participated ritually in scheduled diaspora meets and events and the annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas it was still struggling to make its presence felt in clear and measurable ways. Apart from sporadic email queries from overseas Indians, it didn’t have much to show by way of a sustained engagement that could add depth to the organization’s service proposition and help fulfill its mandate.

Woodapple extended OIFC’s key proposition as a facilitation body through a comprehensive online engagement system with its target audience. We created a digital blueprint plan towards a branded OIFC knowledge network that included a confidential business network connecting overseas Indians with knowledge partners (consultants across legal, tax, investment, banking services) through a premium facilitation query answering system. We further enhanced the responsiveness of the platform through a Live Help system that was the first point of contact of overseas Indians looking for an immediate and prompt help line in India.

We also developed a comprehensive information portal that captured the latest trends, and business/investment related opportunities across13 core sectors - Education, Energy & Environment, Healthcare, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), IT & ITeS, Telecommunication, Infrastructure, Aviation, Ports, Power, Railways, Real Estate, Roads. Our editorial and research team also created a successful newsletter for the CEO, showcasing promising sectors and states in India for investment.

Apart from technology, design and research, Woodapple created and ran a successful global online marketing campaign to attract NRIs across the world. This ultimately resulted in creating a network of over 50k subscribers and 20k network users (NRIs), setting the stage for a continued dialogue, engagement and investment with India.
